Amol Palekar started his career as a banker and worked at the Bank of India for a few years. He joined theatre and acted in several Hindi and Marathi plays, since 1967. His natural acting skills on stage made him gain immense popularity and admiration. He debuted in the Marathi film, Shantata! Court Chalu Aahe in 1971. Directed by Satyadev Dubey, this movie initiated the New Cinema Movement. In 1974, he acted in Basu Chatterjee’s Rajnigandha and Chhoti si Baat.
